We spent about two weeks in southern Arizona, an area known for bird watching. In addition to spotting birds at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, San Pedro Riparian Conservation Area, and Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, we also delighted at all the birds around our campsites. Here are some pictures featuring the birds who were willing to stay still long enough to have their portrait taken. If you can identify a bird, please do so in the comments. Thanks!

I love the bird pictures! Some of them have similar characteristics to our Eastern birds, but none are exactly the same. Do you have other angles for bird #8? I’d love to see more of him. I hope some of your other readers can identify them for you. Sarah W, are you reading this?
WOW!
You’ve got some great birds pics! I live in Tucson — where is Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area?
Thanks! Whitewater Draw is east of Bisbee and south of Wilcox. It is probably a 2 1/2 hour drive from Tucson.
Hi Guys,
One of our favorite activities while visiting S. AZ is the birding – here’s some ID’s for you.
